Environmental
Policy
It is the Nampak Cartons Europe Policy to reduce the volume of packaging
entering the Consumer/Waste/Recycling chain by minimising
thickness/area wherever possible; and to ensure the materials
used minimise energy and are capable of reuse, recycling or
incineration without creating environmental hazards.
Due care and regard is taken of the effects on the environment
from each of our manufacturing processes and products:-
- Within the group we endeavour to reuse, or recycle, the
majority of waste material created within our production
processes. Our paper and board waste enters the national
chain of waste paper collection for reprocessing and recycling,
having itself originally come from that source or from renewable
forest farming resources.
- We do not emit or dispose of any hazardous wastes
from our factories other than in approved ways
or to licensed facilities. Nor do we use CFC gases
in production, or raw materials which themselves
have been made using CFC's. We must not expose
our employees to potentially hazardous risks arising
from production processes or materials.
- In addition, as part of the Group’s continuing drive
to reduce operating costs, particular attention is given
to minimising the consumption of energy resources.
- Our subsidiaries are encouraged to become members of a
range of organisations involved and concerned with post
use waste recovery and reuse. Importantly, our products
should be capable of being recycled into secondary uses
if collected, cleaned and returned to source by infrastructures
which in some cases may not be fully developed in the U.K.
- Nampak Europe is a member of the Packaging Federation,
an organisation formed specifically to promote and develop
better awareness of the benefits packaging brings, and to
clarify misunderstandings regarding packaging’s contribution
to the waste problem.
